Dentistry

Dental hygiene is of great importance, yet it is often overlooked. Dental diseases such as periodontitis and gingivitis can cause irreparable damage to kidneys, liver, heart and even brain. A healthy diet and regular brushing along with an annual exam can contribute to the prevention of these problems. However, your pet may still need a descaling one day.

We recommend brushing your pet's teeth twice a day with a good enzymatic toothpaste. If it's impossible to brush your pet's teeth, there are other alternatives available such as Hill's T/D diet. This pet food is one of the best alternatives since it is simple yet effective in fighting dental tarter and plaque. There are also enzymatic treats and gels though thses options are less effective. It is also very important to consult your veterinarian before starting a dental prophylaxis, because depending on your pet's dental health, certain prophylaxis could be contra-indicated.

Our full service dentistry is available any time.  Descaling is performed under general anesthesia. A complete dental examination is made followed by an ultrasonic descaling (piezoelectric) and polishing followed by an application of a supplemental floride treatment. Dental extractions can be performed as needed. All this helps prevent bad breath, premature tooth loss and the afore mentionned diseases.

Digital dental radiographs , DR (Direct Dental Radiography), are available at our hospital. These help us to better understand the general dental condition, and detect early periodontal diseases and cavities of your pet therefore preventing future problems. Dental X-rays are useful in determining whether or not a tooth needs to be extracted.

Even in young dogs and cats radiographs are useful since they allow us to detect any abnormalities such as encysted teeth, which if not removed can cause the loss of permanent teeth.
